Based in the legendary Gold Rush town of Dawson City, this exclusive photography tour is designed around one goal: giving you the very best opportunities to experience and photograph the Aurora Borealis.

Rather than following a fixed itinerary, every day is planned around weather conditions and Aurora forecasts. This flexibility allows us to visit the most promising photography locations each evening and maximize your chances of witnessing the Northern Lights in all their beauty.

During the day, we explore the breathtaking winter landscapes surrounding Dawson City, including iconic locations such as The Dome, the frozen Yukon River, Tombstone Territorial Park, and other carefully selected photography locations that showcase the extraordinary beauty of the Yukon.

As darkness falls, the real adventure begins. Under some of the darkest skies in North America, you’ll experience the magic of the Aurora Borealis far away from city lights and mass tourism—an unforgettable experience for photographers and nature lovers alike.

Requirements

This tour does not require a high level of fitness.

Participants should be in good general physical condition and able to walk at a relaxed pace for approximately one hour on well-maintained winter trails and uneven snowy terrain.

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome to Dawson City

Your Aurora Photography Tour begins in the legendary Gold Rush town of Dawson City. After checking into your hotel, we meet for a welcome briefing and prepare for our first Northern Lights photography session.

Days 2–6: Aurora Photography in Dawson City

The next five days and nights are dedicated to photographing the spectacular Aurora Borealis in and around Dawson City.

Our daily schedule remains flexible, allowing us to adapt to weather conditions, road conditions and Aurora forecasts to maximize your chances of experiencing and photographing the Northern Lights.

During the day, we explore some of the Yukon’s most scenic photography locations. Depending on conditions, these may include **The Dome**, **Tombstone Territorial Park**, the **frozen Yukon River**, historic Dawson City and other carefully selected locations throughout the surrounding wilderness.

Every evening, we head out in search of the Aurora Borealis, carefully selecting the best photography locations based on current weather conditions and Aurora activity.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, we transfer you to Dawson City Airport for your individual departure flight.

This marks the end of your Aurora Photography Tour.

All routes, activities, and schedules may vary depending on weather, road conditions, and northern lights activity. Flexibility is an essential part of this photography-focused wilderness journey.

ACCOMMODATION

During the tour, participants stay in carefully selected hotels in the historic Gold Rush town of Dawson City. Despite its remote location, Dawson City offers everything you need for a comfortable stay, including restaurants, cafés, a well-stocked supermarket, pharmacies and a variety of local shops, all within walking distance of most hotels.

MEALS

Meals during your stay in Dawson City are not included. Guests can choose from a variety of restaurants, cafés and local dining options throughout the town. A well-stocked supermarket is also available for purchasing snacks, drinks and groceries during your stay.

Clothing and personal material

  • 2-3 pairs of gloves (2x thin finger gloves and warm mittens)
  • 1 pair of winter shoes (preferably with removable inner shoe)
  • 1 pair of warm slippers or bivouac shoes (for accommodation in cabins)
  • 2 pair of very warm winter socks
  • Wind and rain proof warm winter jacket and pants
  • Warm sweaters and enough warm clothing
  • Thin down jacket (optional)

  • Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for Canada
    An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required to fly into Canada. This applies to travelers from countries that do not normally need a tourist visa for Canada, including citizens of the EU and Switzerland. The eTA must be obtained online before your trip. The cost is 7 CAD.

  • Lenses: Recommended lenses include medium focal lengths (35–70 mm) and a telephoto lens in the 70–200/300 mm range. Longer focal lengths from 200 mm upwards are optional. We also highly recommend a good wide angle lens for the aurora-, night – and ice shots. In the range of 14 – 35mm, 1.4 – 2.4).
