Based in the legendary Gold Rush town of Dawson City, this exclusive photography tour is designed around one goal: giving you the very best opportunities to experience and photograph the Aurora Borealis.

Rather than following a fixed itinerary, every day is planned around weather conditions and Aurora forecasts. This flexibility allows us to visit the most promising photography locations each evening and maximize your chances of witnessing the Northern Lights in all their beauty.

During the day, we explore the breathtaking winter landscapes surrounding Dawson City, including iconic locations such as The Dome, the frozen Yukon River, Tombstone Territorial Park, and other carefully selected photography locations that showcase the extraordinary beauty of the Yukon.

As darkness falls, the real adventure begins. Under some of the darkest skies in North America, you’ll experience the magic of the Aurora Borealis far away from city lights and mass tourism—an unforgettable experience for photographers and nature lovers alike.

Requirements

This tour does not require a high level of fitness.

Participants should be in good general physical condition and able to walk at a relaxed pace for approximately one hour on well-maintained winter trails and uneven snowy terrain.

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome to Dawson City

Your Aurora Photography Tour begins in the legendary Gold Rush town of Dawson City. After checking into your hotel, we meet for a welcome briefing and prepare for our first evening of Northern Lights photography.

Days 2 – 6: Aurora Photography in Dawson City

The next five days/nights are dedicated to photographing the spectacular Aurora Borealis in and around Dawson City.

Our daily schedule remains flexible, allowing us to adapt to weather conditions, road conditions and Aurora forecasts to maximize your chances of experiencing and photographing the Northern Lights.

During the day, we explore some of the Yukon’s most scenic photography locations. Depending on conditions, these may include The Dome, Tombstone Territorial Park, the frozen Yukon River, historic Dawson City and other carefully selected locations throughout the surrounding wilderness.

Every evening, we head out in search of the Aurora Borealis, choosing the best photography locations based on current conditions.

Day 7: Flight to Whitehorse & Transfer to Kluane National Park

After breakfast, the Dawson portion of the tour comes to an end.

Guests take an individual flight from **Dawson City to Whitehorse**. Upon arrival, we welcome you at Whitehorse Airport and transfer you to the cozy Glanzmann Tours Lodge near spectacular Kluane National Park.

The second part of your adventure begins with breathtaking mountain scenery, peaceful wilderness and outstanding opportunities for winter landscape photography.

For six nights, you’ll stay at the cozy Glanzmann Tours Lodge, surrounded by towering mountains, frozen lakes and some of the darkest night skies in the Yukon—offering excellent opportunities for both landscape and Aurora photography.

Days 8 – 12: Kluane National Park & Glanzmann Tours Lodge

The second part of your Aurora Expedition takes you into the breathtaking wilderness surrounding Kluane National Park.

During your stay, two guided photography excursions are included. Depending on weather and ice conditions, we explore spectacular locations such as **Kluane Lake**, where fascinating ice formations, crystal-clear frozen surfaces and dramatic mountain backdrops create truly unique photographic opportunities.

On clear nights, we continue our search for the Aurora Borealis. Photograph the Northern Lights reflected across the vast frozen lake or dancing above incredible ice formations—creating unforgettable images that can only be captured during a Yukon winter.

Between our guided excursions, you’ll have time to relax at the lodge, enjoy the outdoor sauna, photograph the surrounding wilderness or simply experience the peaceful atmosphere of Canada’s north.

Breakfast and dinner are included throughout your stay at the lodge.

Day 13: Return to Whitehorse & Departure

After breakfast, we transfer you back to Whitehorse Airport for your onward journey.

As your Aurora Expedition comes to an end, you’ll take home unforgettable memories of the Northern Lights, the historic charm of Dawson City and the spectacular wilderness of Kluane National Park.

ACCOMMODATIONS

During the tour, participants stay at a combination of selected hotels and the Glanzmann Tours Lodge.

Enjoy rustic cabin charm at Glanzmann Tours Lodge, nestled in the tranquil wilderness of Kluane National Park. Cabins feature wood heating, LED lanterns, and candlelight for a cozy atmosphere. Amenities include cooking facilities, water canisters, and a nearby outhouse. Couples will have private cabins, while two solo travelers may share.
A sauna with a shower is available for relaxation. Camera batteries and devices can be recharged during the day using solar power at the lodge.

MEALS

Meals during hotel stays are not included.

Breakfast and dinner are included during the stay at the log cabins. For shared meals, all participants gather in the main log cabin of the lodge. Breakfast is served as a buffet, while dinner is cooked for you. After dinner, participants are kindly asked to assist with washing the dishes.

  • 1 pair of winter shoes (preferably with removable inner shoe)
  • 1 pair of warm slippers or bivouac shoes (for accommodation in cabins)

  • Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for Canada. An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required to fly into Canada. This applies to travelers from countries that do not normally need a tourist visa for Canada, including citizens of the EU and Switzerland. The eTA must be obtained online before your trip. The cost is 7 CAD.

We also highly recommend a good wide angle lens for the aurora-, night – and ice shots. In the range of 14 – 35mm, 1.4 – 2.4).
